Re-designing a website and finding myself

How many times have you thought your professional website does not reflect your personal style? If you say NEVER, then I am incredibly happy for you and slightly jealous. If you are like me, I have thought it, even before I publish one, because who really wants to start ALL over once they have come that far? In some ways, I have created websites because I was using what others "gave" me and "rolling with it". And the crazy thing, is that those sites took me SOOOOO long to build, because I was constantly trying to make something that wasn't mine look like it was. Also, I think I was scared to put myself out there. I had a fear that people wouldn't respond well to it. Or that my style wasn't "trendy" enough. Well, I have 4 words for you: B is for Branding! Four words that rocked my world, gave me confidence and reminded me that putting "my style" out there was the best thing for me and my business. The oh-so-fabulous Alejandra Vidal of Imaginale Design prepared and hosted B is for Branding and if you are a photographer, looking for some inspiration and direction in your style, this is the workshop for you!

I cannot even tell you how thrilled I was to read these words. This is EXACTLY what I was trying to portray. These words woke me up!! They made me realize that putting myself out there was SO worth it, so rewarding.

Needless to say, THAT night, I started re-vamping my web design. This is where Alejandra came to my rescue. Even though we had known one another for less than a week, I trusted and valued her opinion. I knew she would give me an honest critique. To make a long story short, she reminded me that I needed to put myself out there. Here is the process that began this past Monday night...

~What 3 words would you use to describe your photographic style?

Mine: Classic, emotional, romantic. BTW, my favorite word that someone else used to describe my work was "poetic", which may take the place of one of my original words...:)

~What inspires YOU?

For me, it's colors and images. I started an inspiration board on Pinterest and saw a definite pattern....Greens of every shade, slightly monochromatic and classic feels from picture and fonts. I got rid of the things that were inconsistent. Leaving me with a feeling that I was IN LOVE with!

I was literally able to re-design my website on Showit within 3 days and I am so excited to share it with you all NOW! The best part for me is that I truly feel proud of my design. Sharing The Love

Happy Monday my friends. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. We had Grace's party and it was wonderful sharing the day with our friends and family that have been such huge part of Gracie's life.

It's time for another "Share The Love" post! There are some things I am definitely obsessing over lately, so let's dive into them...

~Without diving in to my intense addiction to Starbucks, particularly iced soy chai, I have found an inexpensive, low calorie solution for myself and wanted to sure it with y'all. I have been cold brewing my own coffee. I am not a huge fan of hot drinks in general, and brewing hot coffee and then pouring it over ice is GROSS! I have been spoiled by my years of Starbucks, so I need a really good iced coffee to keep me from jumping in the car and buying a $4 mistake, every day! On Pinterest, DUH, I found a recipe for cold brew coffee and it has been my saving grace in the mornings. To view the recipe click HERE. I used cheesecloth to filter my coffee and preferred it to the coffee filters option. I will warn you, it is kinda a long process, but well worth the weeks supply of coffee that you'll have.:)

~Simple Syrup-to sweeten anything naturally! 2 parts sugar, 1 part HOT water. stir, to dissolve and allow to cool. I am in LOVE with this stuff. It seriously makes my coffee.:) I made a large batch and store it in the fridge for use in iced drinks.

~Re-designing my website. This is round 5 for me, except this time, I am keeping it relatively similar to my last site. The new site will be launch later this week! I never thought I would create an entire website by myself, but Showit has given me to tools to make my vision successful and I am SO thankful for them. This will be my first website I am launching that was built from a blank canvas, so I am super proud of it. Can't wait to share it with you guys!

It's my baby's birthday

Last night, the last time I looked at the clock, it was 11:24 pm. At 2:57 am I woke up to a coughing child. I sat up, climbed out of bed and went to check on Grace. In my haze of sleepiness, I gave her some medicine, adjusted her to sitting up on pillows and tucked her in so I wouldn't have to come back in 10 minutes to fix her again.(you know what I mean, I shoved blankets under her bottom so she couldn't slide back down...it works) I brushed her hair out of her face, kissed her forehead and said, "I love you Gracie, Happy Birthday, baby." She replied, "I love you too, mommy. Happy birthday." I couldn't help but laugh a little, kiss her again and head back to bed. I tried to go back to sleep, but just kept thinking about all of the things I wanted to write about my baby's birthday today. So, it is now 3:50 am and I am writing a blog post about our little Grace.

Words cannot even describe how wonderful this child is. I love all of my children with so much of my heart, and honestly, I love them all equally. They each evoke different emotions in me, to which I am so very thankful. The word that comes to mind when I think of my love for Grace, is PEACE. And not because she is quiet....seriously, this child doesn't stop talking unless she's asleep, and even then she responds in her sleep...but she brings a peace to my heart, unlike any person I know. She has done it to me since she was born. Not that I was a horrible mom to my boys, but I never once was upset when she woke me up at 1am for feedings, a diaper change, or just to rock her. And it hasn't changed to this day. I still get up in the middle of the night with her and hold her, hardly ever concerned about when I will get back to my bed. Feeling so at peace and in love with the moments I have with her.

I cannot believe my baby is 3 today. Tears are running down my face just typing that...it is unreal that 3 years have passed like one week. She is turning into this little girl, and I cannot express how sure I am that she will become one of the most amazing women in the world. My hope for Grace is that she will always have PEACE in her heart and the ability to give it to others. It is a powerful gift.

A Little Pinot-Tammy & Zach's Engagement

There are three things that go really well together; a guitar, Pinot Noir and two people in love. Luckily for me, I got to be the photographer and lets just say it was one awesome combo. We were super inspired by the fact that Tammy and Zach are getting married in Nashville this summer. Just the thought of a Nashville wedding makes my creative mind spin with images. For their session, we wanted to create engagement images that complimented their personal style and their upcoming wedding. It was an honor for Field and I to work with and really connect with Tammy and Zach. They are an amazing couple, with a beautiful connection and we cannot wait to see them on their wedding day. wink.wink.

Sharing the LOVE

~MBS Elite Fitness-Bootcamp- it is kicking my rear, and I love it!! Waking up at 5am, drinking more water than I thought was physically possible and kicking my Starbucks habit has been ROUGH! Almost as rough as the workouts.;) Check out this amazing program for yourself HERE!!

~Pinterest-If you are not on Pinterest yet, you NEED to do this! It makes me happy every time I log on. It is crack for creative junkies like myself! Do it!! To request an invite click HERE!

~Greek Yogurt- I am in LOVE, officially. I just started adding it to my diet for the protein-(side note, did you know that if you are not consuming protein for your body to use for energy, it eats away at your MUSCLE!?!? Boy have I been going about healthy the wrong way-end side note.) Thanks to a good friend, I never would have thought to add honey to yogurt, but it is AMAZING. Try replacing those low calorie yogurts with greek yogurt!

~Blogging about my personal life-this has been a whole new world for me. I was so used to blogging images for my business, but I have realized that this is a platform for people to actually know ME, not just what I do. Thank you all for supporting me through this process of letting my guard down and allowing people into my life.:)

Over diets and ready to change.

On some level, we all want to connect. We all want to feel like someone else understands what we are going through. I think that sharing my issues I have had with my body may reach people on a level that they will also feel comfortable sharing and even dealing with their issues, head on. I have had weight issues since I was a young girl. I started noticing that I was heavier than my friends in 6th grade and I still struggle with it today. When I was in 9th grade, I began trying things to lose weight. None of which were healthy. I started taking over the counter pills to lose weight, doing cardio like crazy and eating less and less. And it worked....until I stopped acting like a psycho path, and gained most all of it back. And that cycle has been my LIFE for last 15 years. Yes, I am 29, we can all laugh it up........that's enough :) Okay, but seriously. What a destructive, dangerous cycle. At my heaviest, after I had Beau, I weighed 206lbs.:( ugh, that feels horrible to type and even worse to re-read...So I did what I know how to do. Temporarily fix the problem. Cardio, crash diet, fad diet, whatever will work the fastest and least painful, and the yo-yo weights continue. Let's skip to present day...I have had another child since then, so three total, and my body is becoming much more temperamental. Every calorie I don't watch becomes extra weight on me. I can't even look at a carb without my waist size increasing. Maybe, it is because I am turning 30 this year, but I have this overwhelming drive to change my body, not for the temporary, but permanently. There is nothing wrong with cutting calories and doing cardio, but it's not going to work for me anymore, and I am guessing that if you have tried it, you also know, the results are very hard to maintain. I am going to have to challenge myself to be stronger. Work harder. And finally reach my goals. I don't want to just lose weight. As a matter of fact, I could care less if I lost 1lb. I want to be physically fit. I want to see muscles in place of fat and I want to be proud of my body. I have begun a journey on a path of physical fitness and I am not looking back. I am so thankful to have you all to share this with. In a way, it's like have hundreds of people to hold me accountable! So thank you. Here are some of the things I am going to be doing to obtain my goals:

Logging ALL of my food in a journal-I am using Fitness Pal:)
Boot camp-Monday, Wednesday, Friday with Chris Warner at 545am. (seriously come join me. it will ROCK your world)
Hot Yoga-once a week
Prayer-every time I am tempted to eat something unhealthy, I am going to PRAY instead. God has the power to change our minds if we ask Him.

One beautiful rejection

One of my business goals for the year of 2012 was to have a wedding published in a bridal magazine and this morning I got my first rejection....OUCH! Can someone please untwist and remove the dull dagger in my heart. That made me feel way worse than I thought it would. I will be honest, I am by biggest critic when it comes to my images, but I really thought this one was a winner. I was a little sad that the editor said the shoot was "cute". hmmmm, "cute"...not sure how I feel about that...

Alrighty....so moving onward! I can never succeed unless I fail. And I have a feeling I am going to fail repeatedly. The hardest thing about putting yourself out there is knowing that you are going to get cut down, which is probably why I have avoided it until now. This is a new me though..I can take it..I think. Wait, I was an intensive care nurse for seven years! I should be able to take plenty of criticism!! I will let you know how I feel after another rejection.

As disappointing as it was to get the "cute" news, I am actually kinda pumped up about the challenge. It is time for me to work harder, be myself and not hold back. I can't believe it took me three years in the business to say that!! I am excited for what is to come. I am even excited about my future failures, because I know that as long as I stay true to myself, a huge FAIL will only make me stronger!

What I needed to hear from Jasmine Star

Somewhere between raising children and being a wife, I managed to start a business. And 2.5 years later, I still don't really know what I am doing!! All I can focus on, is what I don't have, what I don't know how to do, who is doing it better than me and it is overwhelming!! Listening to Jasmine Star tonight on the Showit Global Share, what I heard louder than everything else was, getting through my struggles will make me stronger, investing in people will make me more successful and stepping out of my comfort zone will pay off. Jasmine shared some amazing advice, but I think at this time in my career, very specific things she said spoke to me. Things that I needed to hear and I am so very thankful she shared.

I am going to make it a point to blog about my life. Blogging about my personal life sounds so easy, but I am very insecure about my writing, so this is honestly, so hard for me. Even now....sitting here, the fear of writing something that will be disappointing is more overwhelming than any excitement of writing. But I am going to do this. I am going to step out of my comfort zone. I am going to let my guard down and I am going to share my life on this tiny platform.

I have lots to share...so stay tuned.

DIY-Instgram Magnets & Giveaway

Happy Monday friends! Today, we are going to show you a DIY for customized Instagram magnets! AND we loved this product so much, we are going to send one lucky person a package of Avery Magnet Sheets to create this project.;) Just comment below to enter and a winner will be randomly chosen this Wednesday.

Everyone loves Instagram, especially if you are a photo nut like me. And typically when we take a fun shot, we want to share it, so voila...INSTAGRAM. If you don't have this app, its a must! Get it HERE. You have the option to share your Instagram photos on Facebook, Twitter, email and other social media. There are tons of fun DIY projects to do with your Instagram photos you love and today, we are going to walk you through how to create magnets featuring your favorite photos!

Things you will need:
*Avery Magnet Sheets-product 3270-I bought mine at Office Max, but I am sure any office supply or craft store would have them! They are about $15, but come with 5 sheets...that's a lot of magnets!
*Sharp scissors
*Inkjet Printer
*Our Template.:)

The first thing you will want to do is upload your favorite Instagram images from your iPhone, iPod or iPad to your computer. I create a special folder for mine, so I knew exactly where they were! Then download our template, HERE to use or you can create your own! It is a very easy program to use.
Once you have done that, you are ready to go to Avery's design page, HERE.

Next, you will want to upload your own images to replace ours.
1. Once at the link above, scroll down and click to "load project" and upload the downloaded template or begin creating your own.:)
2. Click on the template image to replace(our silly boy, Beau).
3. Use the toolbar on the left. Click on ->Image ->From My Computer

4. Select image. It will replace the template picture.

5. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all of the template photos have been replaced by your images.

6. Load one Avery magnetic sheet.

7. Select ->Preview & Print-make any necessary adjustments and Print!

8. Cut out your images and your project is complete!

Christy & Bobby-Wedding Day

It was an amazing Fall for Field and I at Karie Denny Photography and to wrap it all up, we had the honor of photographing a dear friend from my previous life as a NICU nurse. Christy was actually one of my very first photography clients ever! So when Christy asked if I could do their wedding, I was so excited. It had been 3 years since our first photo session together. Sommer and Sunsets-Portrait

Eleven years ago, I became a nanny to a little girl named Sommer Elyse and she changed my life. SO much that when I had my own daughter we gave her the name of Grace Elyse. We love this girl so much and watching her grow up in front of our eyes has been amazing. It was a treat for me to photograph her at this very important time in her life. 14 is an age when young girls question their beauty and their worth by their appearance. It was an important lesson for me to teach her that her beauty starts at her heart and radiates out. And she has an amazingly beautiful heart! I wanted her to see just how beautiful she truly is. She is becoming a woman and I cannot wait to see what her future holds for her. I love you Sommer.:)

Longboards, Leaves and Smores-Jamie and Josh-engagement inspiration

I cannot even tell you how thrilled I was when Jamie asked me to do their engagement and wedding pics!! She is my BF's little sister and she holds a special place in my heart. I have practically watched her grow up! I remember meeting Josh for the first time at Jamie's nieces birthday party and knew Jamie had found an amazing guy. They are so perfect for one another. I don't think you can fake the emotions that they exchange with one another. You will see!!

Field and I were so lucky to be the ones behind the lens on this shoot. Thanks to Maria Gates(BF and Jamie's sister) and Brandon Hodge(Jamie's brother) we were able to shoot some long boarding while they set up a glamp site for us. Yes, GLAMPING. It is camping with a little glam. We are just thrilled with their photos and cannot wait to shoot their wedding next spring!

Red Rock Country-Christina & Dave-Engagement Inspiration

For those of you that may not be native Arizonians, like myself, holla...Red Rock Country is Sedona, Arizona. It is one of the most beautiful places in Arizona and it held a very special place in Dave and Christina's hearts. Dave proposed to Christina near Oak Creek in Sedona, just a few months ago! Stephanie & Travis-Wedding Story

I can honestly say that I will never forget Stephanie and Travis' wedding day...for multiple reasons. It was the first time I have ever shot in medium format. Risky, I know, but Stephanie and Travis had complete faith in me! LOVE, love, love my images from that Mamiya 645. It was also the first time I have ever done two weddings in ONE day. Again, risky, but Field and I powered up with protein bars and we were ready to rock and roll when we saw our bride and groom getting ready! More importantly, I will remember the love that Travis and Stephanie shared with their family, friends and one another that day. The love that they have for one another is beaming from them at all times and I was so thankful to witness it! I will never forget what they looked like walking down the isle for the first time as husband and wife together. never. Thank you Travis and Stephanie for allowing Field and I to capture your hearts. You truly captured ours.

Love & Chandeliers- Nick & Alysha's Wedding Story

As we pulled in to the Talking Stick for Nick and Alysha's wedding, I remembered my first meeting with Alysha. I was so thrilled they had chosen us to shoot their wedding and I was even more thrilled to hear all about her creative planning! Creative wedding planning+me=awesomeness;) I remembered Alysha telling me about hunting for chandeliers and thinking, "YES!!! This is my kind of girl!" It was truly amazing to see all of her ideas and plans come together on their wedding day.

Alysha was stunning to say the least and Nick was as handsome as ever. Alysha and Nick knew from experience, I would have them "off the grid" and they rocked everything I threw at them. It was one of our favorite experiences with a bride and groom.

Two weddings, One day, Two sneak peeks

I was very lucky and ambitious to pull off 2 weddings back to back last Saturday! Both weddings were so beautiful and different from one another. Here is one sneak peek shot from each of the weddings:

Our morning started with Kelly and Darin Schafer at The Legacy Ballroom in Paradise Valley. I wanted to post a picture that wouldn't give it all away, but still shows just how beautiful their emotions towards one another are and of course how stunning Kelly is!

We loaded up on some PowerBars and I hate to admit it, but Jack in the Box. We met up with Stephanie and Travis Bradley at Lavender and Old Lace in Mesa, pumped to start shooting for the second time. Rania & Nick-Engagement

What an amazing day for Field and I. We shot our first engagement session TOGETHER and it was AWESOME! It just felt so right. We met with Rania and Nick at the Phoenix Art Museum this past Tuesday and had one of the best shoots EVER! Nick and Rania's love for one another is so apparent and beautiful. Not to mention, Rania and Nick are beautiful.;)

One of the wonderful things about an engagement session is it allows a couple to express their style and individuality before their big day. Stephanie and Travis were just as excited as I was to dive into their engagement session. We spent a "warm" afternoon venturing around downtown Gilbert. Stephanie looked beautiful as always and Travis kept us both laughing the whole time. It was quite the memorable afternoon. Vineyard Weddings at Alcantara

Yesterday, I had the honor of meeting with the owner and dreamer behind Alcantara Vineyards in Verde Valley, Barbara Predmore. She gave me a tour of their 87 acres of beautiful terrain and shared her heart and passion for the sacred land and its resources. It was a beautiful day that I will always remember. The beauty of what Barbara is doing in some ways, has little to do with wine. Barbara and her amazing team are creating a culture. A place for people to connect together, respect the earth and realize life is about people and relationships. Her dreams are so much bigger than harvesting and producing wine.

So you may wonder what this would have to do with me, a wedding photographer or weddings. Barbara and I connect on a level of understanding that life is art. For me, that art is in my subjects, in the locations we choose and in the emotions inspired in a single moment. Alcantara Vineyards offers brides and grooms a fresh idea for outdoor weddings in Arizona. Spots throughout the land offer completely different experiences, giving brides and grooms the ability to create a unique backdrop to their wedding day. The views are breathtaking and you can feel the energy in the land and the people. It was truly an amazing experience I am thrilled to share with you.

Baby Malana Renee

I was so thrilled to get the chance to photograph this little angel. Her mother, Tasha and I, went to nursing school together and became the best of friends. Like Maid of Honor type friends. After our marriages, our lives went two different directions, as they often do. Every once in a while, we would catch up over the phone and it was like picking up right where we left off. Then there was a couple years we went without seeing one another or talking. So many changes had gone on in my life. I had become a Christian, I was on fire for God, Field and I had our third baby and I was so excited to tell her all about it. I knew God had brought us back together in His perfect timing when she told me about how her life had changed as well. She was so passionate about her faith and the love of her life, Kenny. When Tasha told me that her and her hubby, Kenny were expecting, I was elated for them. Tasha had wanted a child for as long as I had known her and I always knew she would be an amazing mother. When I visited tonight to see baby Malana for the first time and to see my friend as a first time mom, was such a wonderful moment. Tasha and Kenny are exactly the parents I thought they would be. AMAZING.

Tasha and Kenny- I am so proud of you guys and I know God is so overjoyed to see one of His children in your hands. You will be the greatest parents!

Malana- You are perfection. Always know that you are a gift. Please take it easy on your parents, especially in the middle of the night. I cannot wait to see you grow.

New Inspiration & Giveaway

This Summer, I took time away from photography shoots to get things organized. Organize my business, our family plans, our finances, just life in general. So, I have some good and bad news. I am a complete procrastinator, and until two weeks ago, I had accomplished nothing, but surviving the heat of Arizona and taking lovely family vacations.

Josh & Hillary- Engagement Session

Let me start this story by telling you that Hilary and Josh together are perfection. I have cherished every moment getting to know them. And I am so excited to share their love story. Their wedding is just a short month away, but we squeezed some engagement shots in before it was too late! I knew right off that bat, that Hillary was a sweet, southern girl, that loved God and people. I loved her instantly. And I knew that if she chose Josh to walk through this life with, I would love him too.

God has a funny way of knowing what two people belong to one another and finding a way for their paths to collide. When Hillary and Josh shared their story with me, Hilary prefaced it with, "it's not exciting, we just met online", in her adorable southern accent! How is that NOT exciting? The truly exciting part is that it worked. In the short time they were both on eHarmony they had been matched. Once Josh had connected with Hillary, she informed him that the online dating thing wasn't working for her, but he could email her if he wanted to stay in touch. They exchanged letters via email and talked oner the phone for hours at a time. And then they met...

It was a date night at Josh's place. The movies The Notebook and My Sisters' Keeper....wait it get's better!!! Hillary had her wisdom teeth pulled just shortly before their meeting and was still in pain...Josh noticed she was uncomfortable and left to get her medicine!! Hillary knew Josh was a KEEPER!!!

Josh say's he instinctively knew that something was right about Hillary, before he even met her. He loved the simplicity and sincerity she possesses. Hillary, despite her attempt to cancel her online dating service, was till matched with a man that would change her life. They were both in the right place at the right time. Right where God wanted them. His timing could not have been more perfect.

I am so thrilled to be a part of your wedding day and your lives. Thank you so much for sharing your story with me and trusting me to capture the beauty in your relationship.

Andrew & Kelsey- Engagement Session

When Kelsey sent me an inquiry several months ago, I could tell, even through email, that this couple was going to be simply wonderful to work with. The couple wanted to stick with desert landscape for their engagement session since they are both new to Arizona and really appreciate the beauty it possesses.

They had sent me bios and when I found out that Kelsey majored in apparel merchandising, I was so thrilled to see what she'd choose to wear for their shoot and she did not disappoint. Their vibrant colors were a perfect contrast to the desert locations we chose for them. Her dress was AWESOME and the shoes...you"ll see.

onto their love story...

Kelsey and Andrew's friendship began their freshman year at Iowa State. GO CYCLONES!!! That outburst was for Andrew. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Kelsey, Delta Zeta. They even lived in the same dorm, just a floor apart. They had friends in the same circle and began to see each other more frequently. After their freshman year of building a friendship, they decided they should start dating. Their courtship continued throughout college and when it was time to look for careers, an engineering opportunity in Arizona brought the couple out of the snow and into the sunshine. They settled down in the hustle and bustle of Scottsdale, AZ and their love continued to grow.

Andrew and Kelsey had been venturing around the Phoenix/Scottsdale areas, visiting local restaurants and shops. They loved Scottsdale, but wanted to see more of the beauty Arizona had to offer, so they decided to take a day trip to Sedona. On the way up, they watched as rain clouds rolled in, but they were determined to get some great pictures and see the beautiful views. When they got to the top of a lookout point, Andrew apologized for the bad weather, but dropped to his knee and proposed to Kelsey. Kelsey stated that, "he said the most romantic things I'd ever heard" and she said yes. Even with the rain, cold and clouds, Kelsey says it was the perfect proposal.

Kelsey was a rockstar for climbing up here in those shoes!

Jen and Rory's Wedding Day Story

The first time I met Jen and Rory I knew I was the photographer for them! They were so full of life and excitement and it was very obvious how much they loved one another. Listening to Jen talk about all the vintage details of their wedding made my heart pitter-patter and I couldn't wait to see it all unfold.

The day of the wedding, I met Jen at Dolce and the magic began. Jen's hair and make-up were perfect and it was time for her to relax before the rest of the day caught up to her. She honestly was one of the most chill brides I have ever worked with. While the girls rested up,

Field and I headed to the venue, Chapel on the Farm and shot some details.

there's not a picture featured on here, but Jen's dress had pockets!! every dress should have pockets!!

Field snagged this one on the right. Totally rocking it as my 2nd shooter!

and then off to shoot the guys! We were definitely going for a Beatles vibe...

Time for the ceremony to begin.

The emotions that everyone felt when Jen was walking towards Rory was breathtaking. He cried...sorry Rory. It is now on the world wide web! It was magical. Jen got to the alter and wiped his tears away.

We headed to Downtown Gilbert, just a few minutes away from the venue to snap some unique pictures of them alone! This is my absolute favorite time of the wedding day! Just the Bride and Groom, still pumped up from the ceremony. This time is really priceless and so are the images!!

the good, the bad and where to go from here...

Running your own business can be a scary thought and a crazy task. i don't think anyone can truly understand the pressure and craziness, until they take on such a task. i have had some really rough weeks lately and i think that if i write about it, maybe it will help someone else.
maybe it will help me...
so there are some tips that i definitely want to throw out there to anyone who is thinking of taking on a business venture as well as those who have already dove in. if i could share my own successes and failures...
let me share with you the good, the bad and where to go from here...

about a month ago, i had a client ask me for pointers on success. i was honored that she thought i was successful, but i also laughed a little, because i think i'm a MESS. However, it definitely made me narrow down what has made me successful...so, the GOOD:

Prayer. Prayer. Prayer. God knows the good and the bad, but when i tell Him humbly during prayer, i am never more comforted. Even as i write this, it is so therapeutic, to give that Glory back to Him. When i talk to God and say, "God, thank you for my gifts and talents. Thank you for your grace and love. I need you....Let me glorify you in all that i do." i can't mess that up.

Dream BIG. Have goals. Big ones, little ones. Write them down and below them, make a list of the details that will help you attain those goals. Your goals will give you drive and motivation. Whenever you feel like you are lost, look at them. They will pull you out of that funk and point you in the right direction!

Fear not. Failure may happen. Mistakes will occur. just do not be AFRAID to FAIL. the fear of failure may keep you from ever getting your feet off the ground or reaching your full potential. I can say that i am pretty fearless when it comes to life. its a perk really. i realize not everyone is fearless, but you can let go of some fears that may be holding you back. i remember when i shot my first wedding(Mer & Ob), i definitely had a fear that i would let my friends down. i had to remind myself that one of the things greater than my fear, was the love my friends had for me. there is ALWAYS a more powerful emotion you can cling to, than fear! So let the fear of failure and mistakes GO and move forward!

i think that's enough for today. personally, sharing the good with you all was enough to kick my butt back into hyper drive. this blogging thing may be a key to my success!!

Happy Thursday everyone! I have been thinking about doing this for quite some time, so leave it up to me, while my plate is overflowing with "to do's" that I add just one more!! However, I am going to proclaim that this "to do" may be the best addition to my list!!

As you all know, I love God, I love Jesus and I feel so blessed to have found them here on Earth. Sometimes I would like to think I have it all together and at the very center of my life, God is my focus. Sadly, I am human. I make mistakes, I sin, and I forget that God is in control. It is in my moments of complete chaos and doubt, that the only comfort I have is my savior. SO, where am i going with all this...

a challenge.

I challenge myself.

I challenge you.

For 28 days, starting today, I am going to create a new habit.

A habit that I hope changes my life from the inside, out.

I am going to find 15 minutes every day(personally, I am going to try early morning).

I will sit with my Bible. I am going to start in John.

and I am going to read and pray

I know that everyday i will become closer in my relationship with God and I will strengthen my heart and mind for whatever the day brings my way.

Nick & Alysha Engaged

It has become quite apparent to me, what I find most inspirational in life, is LOVE.

Not shocking really for anyone who knows me well....

It is incredibly important to know how and who my clients love. To understand them, is to capture their love from the inside, out.

Here is the love story of Nick and Alysha...

It was the weekend of high-school graduation. Parties were to be had and Alysha and Nick ended up at the same one. Alysha admits that she had noticed Nick at a get together the previous week and thought he was "sooo cute". It is so funny the details we remember when we meet someone for the first time. And for Alysha it is obviously burned in her memory...that night Nick was wearing "windbreaker pants, a wife beater and a bandana." Despite his obvious fashion flaws, Alysha felt compelled to meet him. A mutual friend introduced them, they exchanged "awkward hello's" and went about their evening separately. Alysha just couldn't leave with out talking to Nick one last time, to ask for his digits!! And of course(see Alysha)...he willingly gave her his number. The dating began...

And the dating continued. And on Alysha's 25th birthday with their loved ones surrounding them, Nick said, "marry me?". Alysha said "yes". With her vintage style engagement ring on, they started planning the wedding. I feel pretty blessed that I was one of the first things off their check list.;) I am so excited to be a part of their day. Their love for one another radiates. I love what my lens was able to capture.

Logan Wreschner-Senior

On a perfect day in Downtown Tempe, I met Miss Logan for the first time.

She was perfectly sweet and I just knew she was going to be a blast to work with.

We talked about her senior year and how she would soon

be traveling to UofA soon to start her college life!

We encountered "strange" people on Mill...

which is all I will say about that,

but it was quite entertaining and made for some interesting

things to chat about during our shoot. :)

Dawn & Jimmy Engaged

One of my favorite drives is up Usery Pass to Saguaro Lake.

On a cold morning in March, that is where I met this wonderful, energetic couple.

I don't think I have ever had a photo-shoot where I laughed more than my clients, until this one.

We went hiking through Pebble Beach, which should be called Boulder Beach,

especially if you are in HEELS.

Let's just say Dawn and I were SLOW and needed a lot of HELP!

We felt much better getting on stable ground at our second location, but we did get grilled by a Park Ranger who wanted to make sure we weren't taking pics for publication....

(some day park ranger, some day!)

Natalie Davenport-Senior Favorites

The afternoon began with a venti iced chai from Starbucks, which,

if you ask me is the perfect way to start an afternoon.

(i do have an addiction though, so feel free to disagree)

Our final destination that day was Globe, AZ.

It gave Natalie, Carmen(her mom) and I plenty of time to discuss all sorts of topics,

but most importantly, i got a great sense of who Natalie is.

She is a confident, strong, brilliant young lady

whose biggest worry on her mind(at the time), was being accepted to Berkeley.

Running around Globe, trying to beat the sun from setting was the only worry on my mind at the time. Natalie made it pretty effortless. She is gorgeous and a total natural in front of the lens.

I hope that you enjoy looking through my favorites from her day.

Natalie, you were a true gem, thank you for making my work look so good!

The words that come to mind when i think of Andrew and Leigha are:

faithful, selfless and Godly.

To know Andrew and Leigha is to know true friendship. I had the great honor of being a part of their wedding day, their lives and their walk with God. I could not ask for a couple more in love. It has been amazing to see them grow in faith and love throughout the last couple years.

so almost a week ago, i had this amazing opportunity to meet up with all these awesome chicks and bloggers. kelsey of roofresh blog had asked me if i would be interested in photographing the events of the day and i was totally honored. not to sound silly, but these are COOL girls and they were asking me. the other two ladies who pulled this blogger meet up together were danielle of sometimessweet and chelsea of teatalk

i never would have imagine i would meet so many awesome young ladies. i was so nervous the day of. so nervous to finally network and to put myself out there...

so many of these women have huge dreams and ambitions and are SO creative. i loved their energy. it really gave a kick in the pants to up my game in the blogging world. it made me realize, that so many people just want to read what i have to say, what my heart has to say and i am so EXCITED.:)

so here are the fab ladies that attended...i am actually in this picture:)

our first stop on the downtown tour was Phoenix Public Market. there's fresh local produce, vendors, all kinds of col stuff, so check them out! here are a few shots i enjoyed from this cool little hot-spot

i think we stopped for coffee about 5 times during this day and it really never gets old. i could go to a different coffee shop everyday...i love them...maybe i will own one someday.:)

i love this...because its awesome.
